The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged fleet operators, government agencies and other vehicle owners to power their automobiles with Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Compressed Natural Gas, and move away from petrol and diesel.
The Ooni made the call on Friday when the leadership of the THLD Group, Vitol Group and the UBA Group paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ile-Ife in a bid to promote the use of gas to power vehicles in the country.
The monarch said powering vehicles with LPG and CNG would have a positive effect on humans and the environment, because it would reduce carbon dioxide emission, which is contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer.
Ogunwusi, who is also the Chairman of the THLD Group, said using gas to power vehicles was more economical, adding that it would increase the profit margins of transport companies and reduce costs on private and government vehicles.
He advised vehicle owners to convert their vehicles and fit gas cylinders in them so as to enable them to refill with gas.
The Ooni, who stated that he was passionate about youth empowerment, noted that he would support the project so as to make Nigeria great and ready to join the rest of the world on the initiative.
He also called on the youth to learn the conversion of vehicles from using fuel to gas in order to make a living remove them from the list of the unemployed
